Ava returns home from her first visit to the Humane Fort Wayne Pet Food Pantry and her local Kroger located at Southgate Plaza, welcomed by Caprice and Ella into the apartment. For some time, Caprice hisses at viewers as Ella wails excitedly. Ava unpacks wet food and butter while Caprice sassily tells Ava she cloned her. Ella thanks Ava for feeding her despite accidentally eating Caprice’s cat food.
Ava soon informs her cats that she failed Politics & Film officially with a C. She cries as she tells them she never failed a class in her entire life until this point, having passed classes every semester for 37 years straight. The date is August 9th, 2025, one day before the anniversary of her brother’s suicide, which will mark 23 years since. Ava recalls August 9th as “a dark day, a dark month, a dark chapter.”
The next day Ava wakes up and talks about her ASL II class. She reveals that she failed her final exam. Caprice laughs at her and cracks jokes about ASL III in Ava’s fall semester. Ella interrupts Caprice and hugs Ava. Ava talks about having failed both classes on one of the worst days of her life. She briefly remembers that today is the day before the anniversary of her brother taking his own life.
Days later Ava mentions that the money she previously talked about, $6,000, has arrived. She expresses both relief and anxiety about this news. Ava explains all of the things she’ll have to cut back on, like tuition, shots for Caprice and Ella, because the college is now watching her closely after her recent finals failure. Caprice starts gagging at Ava’s desk before storming off. Ella follows behind her, apologizing to Ava for being mad at her. Caprice starts making jokes about Ava’s ASL class again while Ella consoles her.
Ella then yells at Caprice for swearing at Ava. Ava thanks Ella for comforting her while she gets up to go to the bathroom. Ava yells at Caprice for being mean to Ella, who then growls at Ava. Ava returns and tells the audience that people are falsely spreading rumors that she’s crazy. Ella giggles before Ava resumes her story.
The episode ends with Ava previewing her upcoming fall 2025 semester. It consists of four communication classes that she’ll breeze through, one English class, and ASL III. Caprice jokes that Ava doesn’t even need to study for her upcoming fall classes. Ella shakes her head at Caprice before she and Ava yell that she is ready. Ava then yawns loudly, visibly showing how burnt out she is. Caprice playfully shouts that she’s tired of Ava complaining before the episode ends.
